IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert For Several Tamil Nadu Districts On December 7
Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is expected in various parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till December 10.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Tamil Nadu, forecasting the formation of a new low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal by Saturday, December 7, which could bring heavy rainfall to several districts. According to the latest update from the IMD, an atmospheric circulation is currently present over the Southwest Arabian Sea and neighbouring Southeast Arabian Sea. Meanwhile, as of Friday, December 6, another atmospheric low circulation has formed over the Indian Ocean, adjacent to the Southeast Bay of Bengal.
By Saturday, this low pressure system is expected to intensify over the central South Bay of Bengal. It will gradually move in a west-northwest direction, potentially making its way towards the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coastline by the December 12. This weather event is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, to various parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between now and the December 10.

Heavy Rainfall Likely on December 11
The weather forecast indicates that coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, along with a few inland regions and the Puducherry-Karaikal area, are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall on December 11. Specific districts such as Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Ramanathapuram, along with Karaikal, are likely to receive more intense, heavy rainfall on that day.
Furthermore, on December 12, areas including Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Puducherry, and Karaikal may see heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

Chennai Weather: Mild Rain Forecast
For Chennai and its surrounding areas, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy over the next 24 hours. Some areas of the city could experience light fog during the morning hours, while light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is possible during the evening or night. The daytime temperature is forecast to reach a high of 31-32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be around 25 degrees.
The Meteorological Department also issued a warning for fishermen operating in the southern parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal. Cyclonic winds with speeds of 35-45 km/h, with occasional gusts up to 55 km/h, are expected in these areas. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into these waters on December 7.
