President Donald Trump announced an aggressive plan Friday evening to gut the existing board of trustees at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and oust its chairman, billionaire philanthropist David Rubenstein, a remarkable move aimed at remaking the nation’s cultural center.

Trump said he would be appointing himself as chairman of the board.

“At my direction, we are going to make the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., GREAT AGAIN. I have decided to immediately terminate multiple individuals from the Board of Trustees, including the Chairman, who do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture,” Trump said in a post to Truth Social. “We will soon announce a new Board, with an amazing Chairman, DONALD J. TRUMP!”

Trump has sought to reshape the use of executive authority since taking office last month, and this effort amounts to a striking and personal example of retribution aimed at political enemies.

Rubenstein, the board’s current chairman, is an ally of former President Joe Biden.

Trump’s announcement also dove directly into the culture wars as he called out the center’s programming.

Trump continued, “Just last year, the Kennedy Center featured Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth — THIS WILL STOP. The Kennedy Center is an American Jewel, and must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage from all across our Nation. For the Kennedy Center, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”

Presidents appoint members to the board on a rolling basis. It was not immediately clear who would be impacted by the news.

“The Kennedy Center is aware of the post made recently by POTUS on social media,” the center said in a statement. “We have received no official communications from the White House regarding changes to our board of trustees. We are aware that some members of our board have received termination notices from the administration.”

The center acknowledged that its governing statute did not bar the new administration from replacing board members but noted, “This would be the first time such action has been taken with the Kennedy Center’s board.”

CNN has reached out to several members who were appointed by Democratic presidents for comment and to a spokesperson for Shonda Rhimes, who serves as the board’s treasurer.

Reached for comment Friday evening, one member of the board who was appointed by a Democratic president said they had not yet received any communication from the Kennedy Center about their status on the board.

Current members appointed by Trump include Lee Greenwood, Paolo Zampolli, and Attorney General Pamela Bondi.

Last week, the Kennedy Center’s president, Deborah Rutter, announced plans to step down at the end of the year. The board had started a search for her replacement and retained a headhunter. Choosing her successor, it appears, will fall to the president.

President Donald Trump decided Saturday to remove security clearances for several Democrats, including former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and New York Attorney General Letitia James, both of whom are vocal Trump critics, Fox News has learned.

"Bad guy. Take away his passes," Trump told the New York Post of Blinken, Biden's Secretary of State.

James and Bragg were involved in prosecuting Trump in New York last year and James' office filed a lawsuit on Friday on behalf of 18 other Democratic state attorneys general over the Department of Government Efficiency's access to the Treasury Department's payment system.

Former National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Biden’s Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, and attorneys Andrew Weissmann, Mark Zaid and Norm Eisen, also had their clearances revoked.

Eisen, an anti-Trump lawyer, also represents anonymous FBI agents suing the Department of Justice to block the public identification of agents who investigated the Jan. 6 riot.

He also worked with House Democrats on Trump’s first impeachment.

The move comes a day after Trump stripped his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, of his security clearance and his access to presidential daily briefs.

"There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social Friday night.

He added the precedent was set by Biden himself.

"He set this precedent in 2021, when he instructed the Intelligence Community (IC) to stop the 45th President of the United States (ME!) from accessing details on National Security, a courtesy provided to former Presidents," Trump wrote.

At the time, Biden claimed Trump was exhibiting "erratic behavior."

Former presidents usually continue to receive intelligence briefings after leaving office.

"The Hur Report revealed that Biden suffers from ‘poor memory’ and, even in his ‘prime,’ could not be trusted with sensitive information. I will always protect our National Security — JOE, YOU’RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday.

CBS News Poll: Trump's Job Approval at 53 Percent

An all-time high percentage of Americans say they approve of the job President Donald Trump is doing less than three weeks into his second White House term, according to a new CBS News/YouGov survey.

Although Democrats have complained about several of Trump’s Cabinet picks and the Department of Government Efficiency, which has been tasked with finding ways to streamline government and reduce spending, 53% of U.S. adults say they approve of the president’s overall job performance, CBS News/YouGov survey results released Sunday show.

The approval percentage is higher than it has ever been in CBS News polling.

Taylor Swift isn't on her "Eras Tour" anymore.

The pop star showed up to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Sunday, and the fans there gave her a loud chorus of boos when she was shown on the Caesars Superdome jumbotron.

Swift didn't look as if she was too familiar or comfortable being booed by a large crowd as her expression turned to visibly nervous confusion once the chorus began.

Swift is attending her second Super Bowl after showing up at last year's big game in Las Vegas to cheer on her boyfriend and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Many NFL fans have come to be critical of the constant displaying of Swift during broadcasts and on jumbotrons dating back to last season.

Her booing by the crowd also coincided with a heavy barrage of boos that welcomed the Chiefs as a team when they ran through the tunnel prior to the game.

Swift, as Kelce's girlfriend, has quickly become an iconic figure within the Chiefs franchise. But Swift's football roots are with the Eagles, as she grew up an Eagles fan in Pennsylvania.

Swift and her father abandoned this fandom when she started dating Kelce last season, so the crowd treated her accordingly in New Orleans.

And before Swift was booed relentlessly by the Superdome crowd, that same crowd gave a raucous cheer to President Donald Trump when he was shown on screen prior to the game.

Trump was standing in between New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson and Trump's daughter, Ivanka, during the national anthem, which also received a loud roar from the crowd before kickoff.

Swift infamously endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election on Sept. 10. Days after Swift announced her endorsement, Trump sent a post on Truth Social that read "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!"

The crowd in the Superdome on Sunday seems to be more aligned with Trump on that argument.

 

I have nothing against Taylor Swift. I don't listen to her music (maybe a few songs in her early, innocent country era), and I feel she was stupid to endorse Harris in the last election, she has accomplished what few people, let alone women, have in the music business. She does not deserve to be booed.

 

Idk what to believe. I saw the exact footage posted twice, by a fan. One video has the voices behind the camera booing Trump and calling him a traitor. The other video, the exact same footage, had the voices behind the camera screaming that they loved him.
